Seeing Town Officials hi A Whole New Light!
By JULIA A. MORSEThey are seen around town, but they've never been seen like this.
In what Lisa D. Asendorf hopes will be a big moneymaker for the Wings for Falmouth Families charity, some of Falmouth's most recognizable men will appear scantily clad in the Men of Falmouth 2006 calendar, which will likely go on sale next fall.
Ms. Asendorf, who is on the Wings for Falmouth Families Board with her husband, S. Eric Asendorf, and Judy M. Stark of East Falmouth, emphasized that the Men of Falmouth calendar "will not be inappropriate or risque in any way," and will be a great way to support local families.
Wings for Falmouth Families is a nonprofit organization founded here a little over a year ago. It was created through the Cape Cod Community Foundation in Yarmouthport.
Although Ms. Asendorf would not give specific names for the Falmouth men who have expressed interest in participating in the project, she did say that possibilities include a member of the Falmouth Board of Selectmen, a cardiologist, a restaurateur, bartenders, a financial advisor, an employee of a Woods Hole institution, teachers, coaches, firemen, and policemen.
"Every single man I've approached about this has been really, really enthusiastic about participating," Ms. Asendorf added.
Since she and the other board members began volunteering with Wings for Falmouth Families last year, only $4,500 has been raised to aid local families experiencing financial difficulty due to a medical crisis or tragedy.
After racking their brains, Ms. Asendorf and her fellow board members decided to take a risk and try something very different, following in the footsteps of the town of Wickford, England.
"It's fun, it's unique, it's funky," she said. "And it's a great opportunity to make a lot of money for families in town."
Each month in the calendar will be dedicated to a specific Falmouth man, wearing a few strategically placed props, Ms. Asendorf explained.
The message of the calendar will be, "We'd give the shirts off our backs (and even throw in the pants, too) to help a family in need!" Ms. Asendorf said.
The photographs will be given a theme, catering to each of the men's jobs and personalities, she added.
"There won't be anything outlandish about it," Ms. Asendorf added. "We just want everyone to have a lot of fun with it."
Ms. Stark agreed, saying that she is extremely excited about the calendar project, hoping that it could even become an annual event.
"We're really looking forward to it," she said. "Hopefully, we'll raise some good money and we'll have a great time raising it."
The next month will be critical in solidifying plans for the calendar, Ms. Asendorf said, noting that the time line and all other details will be determined to keep the project on schedule to be ready for sales by the end of 2005.
Volunteer photographers are still needed for the Men of Falmouth project, in addition to a printing company to produce the calendars.
